René Goscinny

Born in 1926 in Paris, France, René Goscinny started his career as an apprentice artist in an Argentinean advertising agency in 1943. In 1954 he arrived in the United States and worked for a trade agency. In 1948 he became a cartoonist at a studio working alongside Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder and John Severin.

In 1951 he returned to Europe, writing and drawing for the World Press. He also began working for the comics at that time, writing "Junior " for Albert Uderzo (1954 to 1957) and "Lucky Luke" for Morris (1955 to 1977.) He began contributing to "Tintin Magazine" in 1956, working on "Spaghetti", "Strapontin", "Prudence Petitpas", and many others.

In 1959 Goscinny founded the French weekly comic book "Pilote" with Jean-Michele Charlier and Albert Uderzo, introducing "Astérix the Gaul" in the first issue (art by Uderzo.)

René Goscinny died in 1977.
